My name is Jack Montesano. My entire family is mexican, my mom is from sinaloa and my dad is from a small town in Veracruz Mexico called Santiago, Tuxtla. Me and my sister were born in tijuana she was raised there for six years but after a few months when I was born we moved here to San Diego. She is an old HTH graduate named Darlene Montesano that goes to UCSD now. I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades because I know how to do many things such as welding but since I know how to do so many things I am not exactly particularly really good at anything but I am better at some things than others. Such as welding. I hope that some of these skills can help out in this class. We made rockets once in 8th grade but they were out of paper so I know how the aerodynamics work which hopefully will help for this project.
Project Reflection
How did you feel on the first day of school compared to how you feel today? What things have contributed to any changes in the way you feel? Well at first I was a bit worried how we had to share a class with freshman so their was going to be half as many sophomores as a normal class and if the freshman were like we were when we were freshman I wasn't going to be able to stand them honestly I don't know how mike put up with us. But now that we're two weeks into the year it doesn't really feel any different as having an all sophomore class is. 2. If you could build a third Balsa rocket, what would you do differently and why? Well our first rocket did better than our second rocket because it was longer and it had a better center of balance since our second one was way smaller so something like our first design with the big motor we used on our second launch I think would be a good combination and third rocket. 3. After watching some other students’ films, what themes or common traits have you noticed? They all have music in the back and they all wait until after the rocket launch to happen to talk about how their rocket did in the launch. 4. Is there something you saw in someone else’s film, that you wish you would have done in yours? What was it? Humor. I saw how other videos were just plain and boring but in one their was humor and it made everyone laugh and actually enjoy the film so I wish we would've made our video a little less serious and funnier but still gives the concept of the rocket. 5. Do you see value in being able to create a film about your work? Why or why not? Well, I think it's interesting how everyone does the same concept and they all make a film but they're not all the same everyone adds their own personal touch so it's interesting to see how they do that. But I've personally never liked making movies not a fan of using the programs like Imovie and adobe after effects. 6. What are a few things you plan to do differently on your next film and why?
Well I would like to add something that would make our film unique from everyone else's something people will remember.
Pixar Story
There was a deaf and mute girl, she was happy despite her disability. (5th grade) she transferred to a new school, the only way she could communicate is through a notebook. Kids around her didn't mind. So she made lots of friends they would always talk to her, well write to her. She enjoyed playing everyday with her friends, She did everything a normal kid she wasn’t afraid to do things because people had accepted her as the person she was not some person with a disability. And well there wasn’t much need to be able to hear for some games such as tag so that didn’t bother her. Days flew past fairly quickly She graduated from elementary school up to middle. She was looking forward to this and making new friends since none of her old friends were going to her middle school.. The first month of 6th grade was pretty normal. But she feels as if they had distanced themselves from her. From time to time they would write to her. However this did not stop her from talking to people. She initiated conversations, but they ended quickly as if no one wanted to put up with her and her disability she was alone. This continued for a couple of weeks then the students got annoyed how every time she needed help they had to write it on the notebook. People wrote bad stuff in her notebook. (“ don’t talk to us, etc.”) But all she could reply is, “Sorry.” This went on for many weeks, even when she asked for help, they didn’t want to cooperate with her. Everyday as this continued to happen the smile on her face faded. And she gave up on making friends. She isolated herself from other kids, she began thinking herself as a burden. How she’s too needy, how it’s all her fault, how she’s sorry for being a pain… This continued onto 7th grade as well. In 8th grade she wanted to learn sign language and read lips. She didn’t completely give up on the idea of not having friends. Yeah she was sad, but that doesn’t mean that she’ll be like that forever. She has to be her own solution, since she’s the only one who can change. She learns and uses sign language more often than the notebook method. Well at least she tried. Still even if she learned sign language not everyone understands her, No one understands her. The sign language and notebook method didn’t work. Then again she gave up. She sits alone in class and starts to do her work. She feels a tap on her shoulder and looks up, her eyes meets up with a classmate. He asks, “How are you?” In sign language. She asked, “You know sign language?” He nods his head. Then she smiles. “Want to be friends?” He asks. She nods. That was when She had a realization, that she has changed for the good of herself. She also realized that you should never give up hope because even in the worst of scenarios there's a good around every corner you just have to persevere through it and never lose hope. Since that day she has been able to accept change into her life and help others when change arrives since change is inevitable for everyone. Once again she was a happy person she had understood what she needed to do to adapt and be happy once again.
